Tert-butyl N-aryl sulfinamoyl acetates are hydrolyzed in aqueous basic media following a bimolecular elimination process, via an intermediate sulfine species. The use of sulfinamoyl compounds as irreversible inactivators for zinc-metallo-
enzymes is emphasized.
