โฆ Synopsis
UNCLE ABNER, Master of Mysteries (18 CLASSIC Early-American DETECTIVE stories)
This is a CLASSIC collection of mystery stories featuring one of the most orignal early-American detectives to appear since Poe's Dupin: UNCLE ABNER, a tough, bible-quoting, outdoorsman as well versed in deductive reasoning as he is in holy writ. The stories are seen through the eyes of the narrator, his young nephew, who accompanies him on his various "missions of justice."
Amongst the hidden gems in this long out-of-print collection are: "The Age of Miracles," in which the sleuth exposes a murderer by the simple method of insisting the victim's corpse not be buried with gloves on; "Naboth's Vineyard," with its thrilling courtroom murder case climax; "The Adopted Daughter," in which the detective explains how one brother killed another with a pistol shot after losing a slave girl in a chess game; and the much-anthologized CLASSIC "Locked Room Mystery" tale: "The Doomdorf Mystery."
In his UNCLE ABNER stories, Melville Davisson Post sought to create a new style of storytelling, as each tale starts in the middle of the action, often long after the crime has been committed and the killer believes himself to have gotten away with it scot-free. But wise old Uncle Abner firmly shows him the error of his ways. Great clues! Clever deductions! and Fast action!
