โœฆ Synopsis

The stochastic strength variations of structures and of materials are ascribed to the stochastic variations of initial imperfections and hence are described through a uniยฎed standpoint of bifurcation. An imperfection sensitivity law is employed to assess the presence of bifurcation, whereas the theory of the stochasticity of initial imperfections is employed to explain the probabilistic variation of the maximum strength. In order to demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of the present method, we apply it to extensive examples, such as regular-polygonal truss domes, concretes under compression and steel specimens under tension.

In the case of relatively brittle structural materials, linear fracture mechanics provides an analysis basis for testing and control of fracture strength. Standardized methods of crack toughness testing are available only for metals which can be pre-cracked by fatigue. Hence, further work on this t

Commercially-available electrode carbons, produced using a variety of filler cokes, were heat treated between their baking temperatures and 2500ยฐC. Their tensile strengths were determined by diametral compression testing of 60 mm diameter by 40 mm tall cylinders. Pore structural parameters were obta
