โฆ Synopsis
Ultraviolet photoelectron spectra of higher fullerenes CT8 and Cgg are measured with a synchrotron radiation light source. The spectral intensity oscillates and the peak positions shift, when the incident photon energy is changed. The hv=20 eV spectrum of CT8 resembles that of CT6, which suggests their analogous electronic structures. Comparison of the results with theoretical calculations is in favor of a C;, geometry for the main C,* isomer and a C1 geometry for C 96. Upon potassium dosing onto Cv6, a new peak emerges just above the first (HOMO) band of Cv6. The spectra are deformed at high dosage.

A preparative high-performance liquid chromatography was examined for the isolation of higher fullerenes from CSz extracts of the carbon soot produced by arc heating of graphite in inert atmosphere. At least eight all-carbon compounds CW, CT,,, C,,, CT8, Cs2, Csl, Cgo and Cq6 were confirmed as a "st
