No spaces were seen within the tight junctions of descending thin limb cells of Henle's loop in rat kidney, although spaces 70 in diameter and larger had previously been reported in studies utilizing rabbit kidney. Colloidal lanthanum added to the fixative solutions was not able to penetrate these rat tight junctions.
