โœฆ Synopsis

Intra-and inter-molecular relaxation of dye molecules is studied after excitation to high-lying singlet states. The intramolecular redistribution is temporally resolved for the first time and occurs in oxazine 1 with a time constant of 18Ok 20 fs. The high excess energy of 17000 cm-i leads to a high transient temperature and a concomitant time-dependent broadening of the emission spectrum. The cooling of the hot molecules within several picoseconds is observed directly via changes of the emission probability at specific spectral positions.
