✦ Synopsis
The ultrapure water conductance was measured in the presence of lipid or steak acid monolayers by means of ac and dc fourelectrode techniques. Measurements were performed in NZ atmosphere. To maintain pHz 5 phosphoric acid (lo-' M) or boric acid (0.1 M ) was added to the aqueous subphase. In contrast with previous studies, no increase in the conductance was observed on adding a surfactant and compressing a monolayer.
