โœฆ Synopsis

The optical dephasing of pentacene in an o-terphenyl glass at 1.5 K is examined with picosecond photon echo and fluorescence line narrowing experiments. The homogeneous 7', is found to be l-3 ps, in contrast to all previous measurements on glass-chromophore systems in which the homogeneous 7'* are two to three orders of magnitude longer.

A nontrivial temperature behaviour of the homogeneous linewidth of Eu'+doped silicate glass is analyzed. It is shown that this nontrivial temperature dependence, ranging over 0.4-500 K, can be due to the quadratic interaction with low-frequency excitations of different types existing in glasses.

High pressure (0-30 kbar) is used to investigate the effect of increased density on the temperature-dependent optical dephasing of rhodamine 101 (Rhl01) in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Photon echo measurements have been performed on Rhl01-doped PMMA at temperatures between 1.2 and 2.1 K at pressu
