β¦ Synopsis
A diffractometer using the transformation of ultracold neutrons (UCN) to very cold neutrons (VCN) has been proposed. To this purpose UCN should be accelerated in gravity field to shift their phase volume in momentum space without volume expansion. This provides the necessary VCN beams collimation and monochromatization without substantial flux loss. The advantages of VCN in studies of nanostructures and the results of modelling of neutron scattering on nanoobjects for the real resolution of VCN-diffractometer are discussed.
