Abstract

Vitamin D~3~ (20 I.U./100 g body wt) was administered to the freshwater snake Natrix piscator for 15 days. Elevation of serum calcium and inorganic phosphate levels was observed after the treatment. The ultimobranchial body became active whereas the parathyroid glands exhibited reduced activity. © 1992 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
