โฆ Synopsis
The UK experienced close to or slightly above average daily mean temperatures for the summer months (June to August), although it was still the coldest summer since 1998. Mean daily maximum temperatures were over 2.5 degC lower than summer 2006 across the UK, and in East Anglia maximum temperatures were provisionally the coldest since 1993. The warmest of the three summer months across the UK was August with a daily mean temperature of 14.3 ยฐC. The last time a lower value than this occurred was 1993, when July was the warmest month with just 13.7 ยฐC.
June and July were very wet months across much of the UK with Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Herefordshire having over 300% of their average rainfall for this two-month period. This set new rainfall records for the first two months of summer across many areas of England and Wales. It was the wettest summer in the areal series from 1914 for England and the UK, but only wettest since 1985 for Northern Ireland and 2004 for Scotland. In the long running England and Wales station-based series back to 1766, it was the eighth wettest summer and the wettest since 1912, which is also the wettest in this series.
Summer sunshine amounts were generally close to average across England & Wales and Northern Ireland. Over Scotland, sunshine varied from above average across the Western Isles to well below average across eastern areas. For the eastern Scotland climate district it was provisionally the dullest summer since 1980 and the fourth dullest in the areal series back to 1929.

In July the dullest and wettest weather was in the west and north, but by August it was rather more widely spread -though N
Summer 2011 was characterised by frequent cool, cloudy, showery weather with only brief warm, settled spells. As such, it could be considered an 'indifferent' season, much like other recent summers. Scotland and northeast England had the wettest weather. Further south, the rain brought welcome relie
Daily mean temperatures for the winter months (December to February) were 1-2 deg C above average across most of the UK. Despite the wellabove-average temperatures over the winter, it was not as warm as winter 2006/2007. It was the coldest December since 2001 in terms of daily minimum temperatures f
