UK DTI releases public consultation paper on TTP licensing
In March, just as the UK Government was virtually closing down all new initiatives for the duration of the election campaign, the Department of Trade and Industry published its 'Detailed Proposals for Legislation on the Licensing of Trusted Third Parties for the Provision of Encryption Services'. It is a Public Consultation Paper, available on www.dti.gov.uk/pubs, requesting comments by 30 May 1997. It follows consultation over the last nine months, since the DTI's June 1996 Paper announcing its intent to regulate TVs.
