โฆ Synopsis
Tosoh to build new plants for zeolites and zirconia
Tosoh Corp will construct new facilities for high-silica zeolites and zirconia powder at its Yokkaichi complex in Japan in end of 2008 at a cost of around Yen 8 bn ($71.6 M). The products are major ingredients for the firm's functional-products segment. The project will increase Tosoh's capacity for high-silica zeolites by twofold and for zirconia powder by nearly 50%. Construction will commence in Jan 2008, with completion in Dec 2008. Start of commercial operation will follow. Tosoh plans to construct an 1100 tonne/y plant for high silica zeolites, raising its total zeolites capacity to 4400 tonne/y. The company has a zeolites capacity of 3300 tonne/y, of which roughly one-third is represented by high-silica zeolites. A 550 tonne/y zirconia powder plant that is expandable to 1100 tonne/y will boost Tosoh's total capacity for the substance from the present 1300 tonne/y of fine-ceramicsstandard grade to 1850 tonne/y. The firm intends to expand these businesses to over Yen 10 bn/y ($90 M) in sales by fiscal 2010 beginning 1 Apr 2010.
