✦ Synopsis
The Sz state fluorescence of Zn(lI)tetraphenylporphin has been studied by usins two-photon absorption and opticaloptical double-resonance techniques. The main process to populate the S2 state was found to be a stepwise two-photon absorption to the S,, state through the S1 state_ The large absorption cross section of the S,, + S1 transition (6.8 x lo-lb cm* molecule-') at 540 nm sugests that there clists a higher excited singlet state of gerade parity_
