Abstract

It is established that the absorption in the intermediate infra‐red region in BiOI, BiOBr, and BiOCl has two‐phonon character. Group‐theoretical investigations of the phonon spectrum and two‐phonon infra‐red absorption and Raman scattering for these crystals are Carried out. The selection rules obtained enables one to ascertain what phonon combinations from one or different branches, in what points of the Brillouin zone of crystals of symmetry DJ are allowed or forbidden.

## Abstract The general theory is given of the origin dependence of the labelling of electron and phonon states in crystals. All types of space group are considered. The space groups T, O, and C are studied as examples.
