โฆ Synopsis
During the course of a systematic survey of the Myxophyceae of Mysore State, Western India, the authors came across two new species of Anabaena . These are described below.
1 . Anabaena alatospora sp . nov . (Figs . 1 and2)
Plant-mass soft, mucilaginous . Trichomes single, usually curved, end-cells with rounded apices . Cells spherical to barrel-shaped, as long as broad or slightly shorter or longer than broad, 3 .2-4.5 ,u in diameter, 3 .2-5.8 ,u long. Heterocysts single, intercalary, cylindrical, 3.8-4.5 p in diameter, 7-9 ,u long . Akinetes single, cylindrical, 10.4-13 ,u in diameter, 25 .2-36 ,u long, outer wall radially striated, wing-like striations, yellow-brown in colour, membrane 2 .6-3.2 ,u broad .
Along with other algae in a mucilaginous mass in a puddle at Devarayi, Mysore State. Collected on 4th October 1952 .
Type preserved in the personal collection of the senior author (No . M . 11) .
Planta mollis, mucilaginosa . Trichomata singularia, vulgo curvata ; cellulae terminales apicibus rotundatis ornatae . Cellulae sphaericae vel doliiformes, aeque longae ac latae, vel paulo breviores vel longiores, 3 .2-4.5 ,u diam., 3 .2-5 .8 p longae . Heterocysta singula, intercalaria, cylindrica, 3 .8-4.5 p diam., 7-9 ,u longa. Akinetes singuli, cylindrici,10 .4-13 ,u diam., 25 .2-36 p longi, parietibus exterioribus radialiter striatis, striis alae similibus luteo-brunneis colore . Membrana 2 .6-3.2 p lata .
Typus lectus simul cum aliis Algis in massa mucilaginosa in lacuna ad Devrayi in Statu Mysore, die 4 octobris anni 1952 a N . D . KAMAT et positus in herbario auctoris senioris sub numero M 11 .
