β¦ Synopsis
Inelastic neutron scattering experiments
have been used to study magnetic excitations of Cu" spins in a Nd,CuO, single crystal. These magnetic excitations are characteristic of the strong 2D antiferromagnetic coupling within CuO, layers. As the temperature increases, the magnetic cross section shifts to lower frequency suggesting the existence of a temperaturedependent anisotropy gap in the spin-wave spectrum

We have measured the complete crystalline electric field (CEF) spectrum of Nd 3+ in superconducting Nd,.s&e0.,&u04 and in the non-superconducting parent compound, Nd2Cu04, by neutron inelastic scattering. The best description of the ground state excitations for both compounds is achieved by the addi
