✦ Synopsis

We report P novel type of photon echo, the relased two-color stimulated echo. in the molecular mixed crystal of pentaccne in naphthalene. A prerequisite 10 observation of this type of echo is that the inhomo:cneous broadening on the sclecred transitions be correlated. The echo is used to study the picosecond vibrational deactivation of some excited-state vibntions of pentacene. Evidence for intermediate levels in the relaxation pathway is presented.

## Abstract Many applications of quantum communication crucially depend on reversible transfer of quantum states between light and matter. Motivated by rapid recent developments in theory and experiment, we review research related to quantum memory based on a photon‐echo approach in solid state mat
