Abstract
The multiple meson production is described by the two‐centre model as an isotropic emission of mesons from centres moving with velocity which is neither the velocity of nucleons escaping the collision nor the velocity of the centre‐of‐mass system of colliding nucleons. There is an evidence of the formation of two or, sometimes, of one such a centre called “fire‐ball”. This evidence is based on a large statistics of observations of transverse momenta and of the shape of log tan θ~L~ distributions in cosmic ray jets. Both these quantities are Lorentz‐invariant or nearly invariant and therefore can be safely measured in the laboratory frame of reference.
