Abstract

In this article we have demonstrated that a 2 × 2 ports fused fiber‐grating‐coupler can be implemented by combining the technique of fabricating a fused‐fiber coupler as well as that of writing a fiber Bragg grating for applying in an all‐fiber optical filter. The grating with the grating reflectivity of 87% is fabricated in the tapered region of a 2 × 2 fiber coupler with the coupling ratio of 80 and 20%, respectively to two different output ports. This device can be applied in optical multi/de‐multiplexing and add/drop filters for optical communication systems. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
