✦ Synopsis
Abstracta
-The anodic behaviour of a mercury electrode in aqueous phthak acid (H,Pht) solutions has been studied by varying the pH of the medium, the supporting electrolyte, the reactant concentration, and temperature. Mercurous phthalate is the product of the electrode reaction. At low H,Pht concentrations only an adsorption monolayer of product is formed, while at high reactant concentrations a more complex process is observed with the formation of a triplex structure, consisting of the adsorbed monolayer, an additional bi-dimensional layer (formed by a nucleation and growth process) and finally a three-dimensional deuosit. The formation of the second monolayer of H,Pht is particularly sensitive to experimental conditions.
