This updated introduction to Turkish for the general reader puts emphasis on everyday life, business and culture. It covers grammar and useful vocabulary introduced through special exercises, dialogues and reading passages to enable the student to become confident in all situations.
This Turkish language course assumes no previous knowledge of other languages: the emphasis is firmly on communication skills. It is based on the Council of Europe's guidelines on language learning and contains plenty of exercise material.
The selections contained in the reader appeared originally in Uhuru, a Swahili-language newspaper of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, during the year 1980. English translations of the Swahili selections have been included in the reader for the benefit of those who are studying without a teacher.
