✦ Synopsis

A. Helwich, in his Czechoslovakia letter, tells of a recently developed wood-gas generator which may be applied to all internal combustion engines. In these generators 27 ounces of wood are claimed to be the equivalent of one liter of gasoline.

C. Tungsten Crystals for Light Bulbs.--(lnd. and Eng. Chem., News Edition, x2,264.) The Osram Co. in Prague, Czechoslovakia, has installed a process for the manufacture of recrystallized tungsten wire. The wire is continually drawn over a zone of above 2000 Β° C. by a velocity exceeding that of the crystal growth. The metal is brought to a white heat for a brief period and the wire is continually transformed into one long crystal. C.
