✦ Synopsis

The homogeneous p phase reaction between Fe and 0, has been studied in an Nz bath at 1600°K using an alumina fast-flow reactor contained in a vacuum furnace. The reaction proceeds via Fe f O2 + Fe0 f 0 with a rate coefficient of (3.6 e 1.4) X lo-l3 ml molecule-' set-l . Evidence has also been obtained for a wall oxidation reaction, for which 7Fe 2 10-l.

The homogeneous gas phase reaction between Al and 02 has been studied. The reaction proceeds via Al + 02 + A10 + 0 with a rate coefficient kl of (3 + 2) X lo-l1 ml molecule-'set-'. The data indicate no measurable temperature dependence of kl over the lOOO-1700°K range investigated.

We present a kinetic study of the reaction between atomic sodium and nitrous oxide in the temperature range 349-917K. Na(32S~/2) was generated by the pulsed irradiation of NaI vapor in the presence of N20 and excess helium buffer gas, and monitored photoelectrically in the "single-shot" mode by time
