Mackenzie, a physical therapist who works with kids, has a problem: as much as she loves the holidays, and spending time with her family, the fact that her parents constantly pry into her lack of a love life makes it difficult for her to look forward to spending Christmas and New Years with them. She's resigned herself to coming up with an excuse to leave festivities early when she meets Patrick, the single father of one of her new patients; although Mackenzie is reluctant to date a patient's father, when Patrick presses her, she gives into her interest and begins dating him. Patrick, a dedicated businessman, has been single ever since the mother of his son died, five years before.
