It bounces smoothly back and forth from Carissa's prison experience to her childhood experiences and, in the end, she is able to paint a vivid picture for the reader to see clearly and better understand how a rising star student-athlete, who had everything seemingly in the palm of her hands, could commit such a heinous act like attempted murder.
