✦ Synopsis

The phosphorescence spectra of the pyrazine molecule and of its mon.o-and diprotonated forms have been measured in aqueous solvents.

Emission maxima occur respectively at: 26700 cm-l, 21600 cm-1 and 24 100 cm-l.

The nature of the excited states involved is discussed, and an explanation of the redshift of phosphorescence under protonation is proposed in terms of acid-base equilibria of pyrazine in its lowest triplet state.
