Rate constants of tluorescence quenching by electron acceptors are greater for altemant than for non-altemant hydrocarbons with equal E,-o. The reverse is true for quenching by electron donors. This is consistent with the towering of the worbital ener&s of non-altemant compared to aftemant polycycti

โฆ Synopsis
The rate constants for triplet quenching of polycychc aromatx hydrocarbons by substituted nitro-benzenes and qtione m solution have been determined usmg flash photolysls measurements. The quenching constants and activation energies depend only on the proxunity of charge transfer level to hydrocarbon triplet level of any quencher-quenchee pair. It has beea estabbshed that triplet deactivation IS induced by an exclplex.
