✦ Synopsis

This year's Focus on Germany coincides with the Achema 2003 congress and tradeshow in Frankfurt. First, a report compiled by show organizer Dechema examines trends in pumps, fittings and seals in Germany, with additional statistics from Germany's VDMA. There has been much recent concern over handling media safely and the focus for pumps is once again on the elimination of emissions. With the demand for facilities that combine lowmaintenance with a high level of safety, the German pump industry is also seeing the increasing importance of service strategies. Following this update on trends, we highlight innovative solutions in peristaltic pumps, dosing pumps and condition monitoring from some of the country's leading pump manufacturers.

Used correctly and with the right tools, the internet can help manufacturers and buyers and sellers of pumps. However, many in the industry remain sceptical about the real cost benefits it can bring and the advantages, if any, it has over traditional business methods.
