β¦ Synopsis
A slight worsening of RA was manifested by moderate joint swelling. At this time, D-penicillamine was restarted at 300 mglday for the first month and 600 mgl day thereafter. To date, no further hematologic alterations have been detected.
Our observations lead us to suggest that should serum copper levels reach approximately 13-14 pmoll liter during D-penicillamine therapy, the drug should be withdrawn until the levels return to normal. The possible relationship of low serum copper concentration to pemphigoid skin lesions should also be considered, and we recommend that the appearance of these lesions should be considered adverse reactions to Dpenicillamine.
