Hepatic hydrothorax is defined as the presence of a pleural effusion in a cirrhotic patient in the absence of pulmonary or cardiac disease'. Several treatments have been proposed for this intractable complication. A report is made of four patients treated successfully by the new technique of videothoracoscopy.
