High-resolution ESR spectroscopy by use of quantum solid parahydrogen has been applied to the observation of H 2 anions. When solid parahydrogen is irradiated with ~/-rays at 4.2 K, H~-anions produced show ESR spectra of quartet lines with a hyperfine splitting constant of 203 G. H~-anions consist o

โฆ Synopsis
ESR spectra of H atoms, produced in y-irradiated solid HD, were studied at 4.2 K. Two main lines of the ESR spectra of H atoms that arc separated by about 500 G accompanied two weak spin-flip Lines due to an interaction of H atoms with matrix protons. The analysis of the spin-flip lines and the main lines indicates that H atoms in solid HD are trapped in the interstitial octahedral sites, where the average distance of the nearest-neighbor protons away from a trapped H atom is 2.5-2.6 A.
