β¦ Synopsis
Cervix cancer remains a significant cause of mortality, causing 30% of deaths from all gynecologic cancers. Treatment is determined by clinical staging. Disease confined to the uterine cervix is appropriately managed by irradiation. Unfortunately clinical assessment of cervical tumor spread is often difficult. This report demonstrates a case in which transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) correctly predicted parametrial infiltration that was not clinically appreciated. Although not meant to replace clinical vaginal examination, TVS is a useful adjunct in assessing gynecological neoplasms.
