โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
The dialysis and flow properties of a selected copolymer system, consisting of polyethylene terephthalate and polyoxyethylene glycol, have been studied in some detail. Such transport information should serve as a guideline to future development of improved, synthetic, hemodialysis membrane materials. By varying the size of the polyoxyethylene glycol segment, the transport properties of this copolymer have been examined as a function of the chemical and physical properties of the system. Membrane transport has been described by three flow parameters: the filtration, reflection, and solute permeability coefficients. Data for three copolyetherโester compositions and several aqueous solutes are discussed and compared with data on cuprophane, the cellulose material currently used in the Kiil hemodialyser.
