✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The results show that rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) are able to concentrate NO ions in the blood plasma. After 24 hr in water containing 0.7 mM/l NO, the blood plasma contained about 5mM/l NO suggesting that the gills have the ability to transport NO~2~ against a concentration gradient.

## Abstract Preparations of posterior gills isolated from postmoult shore crabs (__Carcinus mediterraneus__) that had been acclimated to dilute seawater were used for calcium‐transport studies. Gills were perfused and bathed with saline of identical composition, with ^45^Ca^2+^ ions added exclusive
