โฆ Synopsis
An
overall effectiveness factor is derived for a class of nonisothermal multiphase catalytic reactions based on a perturbation technique. Compact expressions for the effectiveness factor are given for two extreme cases that are nearly accurate. An expression for the maximum temperature rise in the pellet is also given. The temperature rise goes through a maximum as Thiele modulus increases. A criterion of negligible transport effects is developed that consists of measurable quantities. Also developed is a more conservative but more compact criterion.
