For stabilizing the temperature of superfluid helium dc 1 or ac 2,3 bridge circuits are usually employed, in which the temperature probe is a resistance thermometer and the power dissipated in a wire heater is proportional to the out-of-balance signal.

✦ Synopsis
Transport coefficients are computed near the A-transition of helium by considering processes in which one transport mode breaks up into several. The conclusions are that first sound damping diverges as / E l-l, second sound damping as 1 E I-lls and thermal conductivity as 1 E /-II3 with E = (T -TA)/T, for low frequencies. These results were first obtained via the dynamical scaling idea by Ferrell and coworkers. Less singular results are found at higher frequencies.
