✦ Synopsis
Electrical reslstivlty, Hall coefficlent, thermoelectric power and magnetic susceptibility of La2_xBaxCuO 4 have been measured. In all these quantlties, drastic anomalies have been found below ~ 60K in a narrow Ba concentration region around x=0.12, where the superconductlng transition temperature is reported by Moodenbaugh et al. to have a significant dip as a function of x. The anomalies are assoclated with the structural transition to the new low temperature phase recently reported by Axe et al. The electronic state in the new phase is very dlfferent from that in the high temperature orthorhombic phase and the superconducting transition temperature is largely suppressed.
