✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Transparent superhydrophobic surfaces were prepared by self‐assembly of hydrophobic n‐octa‐ decyltrimethoxysilane (H~3~C(CH~2~)~17~Si(OCH~3~)~3~, ODS) and (3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl)trimethoxysilane (F~3~C(CH~2~)~2~Si(OCH~3~)~3~, FAS3) monolayers from gas phase on transparent nanoporous alumina surfaces. Water contact angles on the silylated transparent porous alumina surfaces showed a strong dependence on the dimensions of the underlying porous structure. The highest contact angle (153°) was measured on an ODS monolayer on a porous alumina surface that had a pore diameter of about 50 nm. The superhydrophobic surfaces prepared in this work are transparent and stable which widens the range of their potential applications. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

## Abstract A surface of biomaterials is known to affect the behavior of cells after their adhesion on the surface, indicating that surface characteristics of biomaterials play an important role in cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. To assess the effects of functional groups on biom
