✦ Synopsis
A mechanism based on rotations in six dimensions is applied to the continuous transformation of the Mackay icosahedron to cuboctahedron. The approach is valid for particles with any number of atoms. The evolution is parametrized by just one parameter and a continuum of intermediate structures is obtained. A small energy barrier between these structures exists under a Lennard-Jones potential.
