โฆ Synopsis
The transition between the Airy stress function and the state space approach to elasticity is established. It is shown that a formulation based on a state vector that consists of the Fourier transforms of the Airy stress function and its spatial derivatives has advantages due to the simpler nature of the matrix involved. The approach is used as an intermediate step in obtaining the transformed stresses and displacements. The Flamant problem is used as an application. In contrast to previous studies, it is shown that one of the displacement components contains an integral that diverges in the classicalsense, but converges in the sense of generalizedfunctions or distributions.
