En ung kvinde flytter hjem til Oslo efter at have boet i Paris. I Frankrig har hun haft et intenst kærlighedsforhold til Simon, som er gift, som har et barn og, som hun opdager, har endnu et på vej. Hun forsøger at slå sig til ro i Norge, glemme Simon og genoptage kontakten med sin mor og sin søster. Men en dag ringer Simon og siger, at han kommer på besøg.
Kærlighedsforholdet til Simon er skrevet med både stor følsomhed og en overraskende lethed, men rummer også en voksende uro.
Transit er en roman om tilhørsforhold og rastløshed, om udlængsel og hjemlængsel og om at lede efter sig selv i den anden.
