✦ Synopsis

The quasi-static thermo-elastic equations are solved for material which is transversely isotropic about the radius vector. The Laplace transform is used to obtain a geiieral solution of the equations in which all quantities are assumed to depend on the radial co-ordinate and the time only. The particular problems of constant temperature suddeiily applied to the surfaces of a solid sphere and a spherical cavity in an infini~e solid are considered. Numerical results are present~ed for the second of these problems.
