โฆ Synopsis
Finite difference techniques are used to predict the transient temperature distribution within the infinitely long, solid, right circular cylinder which is subjected to a combined linear convection and nonlinear radiation boundary condition at its surface. Representative results for the non-dimensional temperature at both the centre and the surface of the cylinder are presented, with the complete results given in Reference 7. Conclusions are drawn which suggest the conditions under which the cooling reduces to the simpler cases for which solutions are already available, namely pure convection, pure radiation and combined convection and radiation when the system can be treated by the lumped parameter method of analysis.
