β¦ Synopsis
The S,l + S, absorption (Ama is 650 nm, E > 7 X lo3 hi-' cm-') of triptycene and the Tn +T, absorptions ($na.. is 370 and 550 nm) of 3-acetyltriptycene have been determined by nanosecond hser spectroscopy_ A small contribution of charge-transfer character and subsequent reactivity in the excited states are discussed.
