โฆ Synopsis
A wide spectrum of plant science research now utilizes transgenic plants as a means for understanding the synthesis of plant products. In complementary research, crop plants are being concurrently engineered to produce novel products. Although scientific papers published in 1994 have reinforced this diversity of subject areas, relatively few papers will be remembered as breakthroughs in a commercial sense. Two notable exceptions were the separate achievements of fructan and polyhydroxybutyrate polymer accumulation in healthy transgenic plants. Even so, on the basis of data reported at conferences during 1994, many more exciting and signal advances will be described in 1995.
