Symplectic transformations with a kind of homogeneity are introduced, which enable us to give a unified approach to some existence problems on the periodic solutions for the first-and second-order Hamiltonian systems.

## Abstract We establish some new oscillation criteria for the matrix linear Hamiltonian system __X__ β² = __A__ (__t__)__X__ + __B__ (__t__)__Y__, __Y__ β² = __C__ (__t__)__X__ β__A__ \*(__t__)__Y__ by using a new function class __X__ and monotone functionals on a suitable matrix space. In doing so,
## Abstract This paper deals with a class of infinite dimensional Hamiltonian operators. Explicit descriptions of their spectrum, point spectrum, residual spectrum and continuous spectrum are obtained, in terms of those of the compositions of two block operators in the Hamiltonian operators. Using
