Atomic transfer rates furnish a useful method for characterizing thestructure of heterogeneous catalytic reactions. Such transfer rates may be measured by means of isotopes of appropriate elements. Reaction rate expressions may be developed from such information more effectively than by means of the usual techniques based on net reaction rates of molecular species.
