✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The influence of adsorption and multiplicities of infection on the transducing system Proteus mirabilis—π~1~ was studied. The frequency of transduction and the rate of survival depended on the duration of the incubation of the transducing mixture. The maximum of transducing frequency was obtained after 5 min of incubation at 37 °C. This time corresponds to that required for optimal adsorption. The frequency of transduction and the rate of survival depended on the multiplicities of infection. An optimal frequency of transduction for the system studied was obtained with multiplicities of infection ranging from 4:1 to 8:1.
