✦ Synopsis
Several experiments %-ere performed to test the toxicity of FIT, :t washing-up and general cleimiiig liquid contilining about 10 'J," sodiumnlknnemonosulfonate (industrial name E 30) t,o spa\ n and larvae of itnura. The LC50 values for spawn were between 1.62 x10-3 0,; (Ranu dnlmnfinn) and 4.9i x lo-:! ' 1," (Runu temporn, ria). The sensitivity of anitran larvae depends on the concentratiun orid duration of exposure t,o the detergent, as well as on t,he deve1opment:tl and differeritiat.ion st"ge of the organisms. The toxicity of FIT is not due solely to the alkanesulfonate it contains. hiit results from the joint action of the surfactant, polyphospliates and solvents.
The results indicate that detergents may be harmful to the amphibian fauna of Central Europe.
